It is said that emperor Guangxu (光緒皇帝) liked to eat eggs. Attached to the principles of thrifty, he only had 6 eggs a day. Why? The emperor knew nothing about what was happening outside the walls of the forbidden city, let alone the price of an egg. Tending to cheat the emperor and line their pockets, the emperor's underlings reported to him that a single egg would cost 26 grams of silver, an amount of money which could actually buy thousands of eggs at the time. The emperor believed it to be true and he only ate 6 eggs a day in order not to spend too much money. Well, that was more than 100 years ago, when China was still under the rule of the absolute monarchy. It isn't too difficult to understand the emperor's stupidity.

Now, it's the 21st century, but as a famous scholar said shortly after the Qing dynasty had fallen out, NOTHING HAS CHANGED BOTH IN AND OUT OF THE FORBIDDEN CITY, except the bicycles. Now, we shall say, except the tangling internet cables.

Nothing else to say, just to present 3 pictures hot off the Chinese internet here.

Nothing more to say.

Also, tributes paid to Chinese netizens who take everything official with a pinch of salt.
